The Mediamaker company will receive 176.6 million rubles from the IKEA corporation for refusing to advertise on television as part of the annual contract. The decision of the court has been upheld, and the compensation to the plaintiff was not reduced. This is the largest lawsuit that IKEA has faced.
In July 2022, IKEA Russia also faced the threat of legal action from the «Public Consumer Initiative» (OCI) due to violations of consumer rights. The company was partly accused of resuming imports and production.
This is not the first time that IKEA has encountered problems in Russia. In the past, the company was accused of fraud when it was discovered in 2014 that IKEA products being sold in Russia were made of poor quality materials. As a result, IKEA reevaluated its policies and began to produce goods at its Russian factory.
It should be noted that Mediamaker is willing to continue its collaboration with IKEA in the future. However, after this incident, additional discussions on the terms may be required.
