At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, AvtoVAZ and the Chinese manufacturer FAW Bestune unveiled their joint project, the LADA X-Cross 5. While the new crossover shares many similarities with the Bestune T77 produced in China, it is not a mere replica. Instead, it is the result of successful collaboration between the two manufacturers.
Presented as part of AvtoVAZ’s strategy to make Chinese car models more accessible in the Russian market, the LADA X-Cross 5 aims to achieve this goal by producing the cars locally at multiple production sites and incorporating Chinese components. This strategy not only makes the car more affordable but also creates new job opportunities and promotes the local economy.
Sharing technical characteristics with the Bestune T77, such as a turbocharged engine, an advanced infotainment system, and stylish design, the LADA X-Cross 5 also boasts unique highlights that differentiate it from its predecessor. For instance, it has a 190mm ground clearance, making it a capable off-road vehicle, and a spacious interior, providing ample legroom and headroom for both drivers and passengers.
Scheduled for production at the Togliatti factory in Russia, the LADA X-Cross 5 is set to be available for purchase by 2022. The joint project aims to produce high-quality cars at reasonable prices, strengthen the relationship between Russia and China, promote cross-cultural cooperation, and mark a significant milestone in the growth of the Russian car industry. This venture also serves as a testament to the importance of strategic partnerships in today’s global economy.
