Joyce McDonald, a former drug addict and prostitute, turned artist, presented her sculptures at her first solo exhibition outside of the United States in London in May.
McDonald discovered her passion for clay sculpting while undergoing treatment for drug addiction. Her works have since garnered attention from experts and have been featured in exhibitions at the Brooklyn and Los Angeles museums.
Through her sculptures, McDonald represents people, animals, and abstract figures. She expresses her comfort in art therapy and reading the Bible after she found her way to faith.
«My work helps me and others to heal. I have come a long way, from being a drug addict and a prostitute, to becoming an artist and believer,» says McDonald.
Her works continue to succeed in global galleries and attract critics and viewers with their intensity and originality.
